Cocoa police are investigating a report of gunfire on Clearlake Road Friday morning.
Officers responded to the 1500 block of Clearlake Road just after 9 a.m. after reports of shots fired in the area.
No injuries or victims have been reported, according to Cocoa Police Department spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez.
SWAT officers arrived at the apartment complex where the shooting occurred after witnesses saw a man shooting at a vehicle with a rifle, according to police reports.
Soon after the vehicle sped away from the scene, police obtained a search warrant for the apartment where the shooter was last seen. Police did not release any information about the victim or a possible arrest in the case.
Richard Driskell has lived in the Clearlake Villas apartments where the shooting was reported since February. He said he’s never felt unsafe there, even after the shooting and police presence earlier this morning.
“They had the crime scene unit out here and they asked me if I heard gunshots around 8:30 this morning, but I was asleep,” Driskell said. “I did hear the helicopter overhead, but I didn’t go outside.”
“You might think this would be a rough place,” he said. “It might be for people who are disrespectful to each other, but me and my dogs are well-received.”
Martinez said officers are continuing to investigate. Cocoa police are asking anyone with information related to the case to call CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-8477.
