According to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer to Yvonne Martinez, the fire vehicle, an F-250, was recovered and a suspect is being sought.

There were no injuries and only minor property damage to a building as a result of the fires.

“At approximately 6:34 p.m. Saturday. police and firefighters responded to 640 Brevard Avenue for a reported fire in a dumpster,” said Martinez.

“As emergency crews managed the scene, another call was received at 6:47 p.m. for a fire in a trash bin at a pavilion at Lee Wenner Park. Additional emergency personnel responded to the second fire when a third call was received at 7:13 p.m. for a fire alarm activation at 225 King Street.

“A short time after, at 7:19 p.m., as patrol units were canvassing the area for suspicious persons, they learned the vehicle assigned to the district chief was stolen from the scene at 225 King Street. The suspect abandoned the fire vehicle a short distance away at 430 Brevard Avenue, and fled the area on foot,” said Martinez.

According to Martinez, the suspect appears to be a white male, thin build, wearing a blue t-shirt and tan or khaki pants. He wore a tribal tattoo sleeve on his left arm.

Detectives are currently working with the fire department to identify and locate the suspect.
