Boat Ramp Repair Update:

Instead of waiting for FEMA reimbursement, which could take up to a year or longer, the County has decided to take a loan from Risk Management funds to expedite boat ramp repairs. Design has begun for the Port St. John and Parrish Park repairs. Applications for permits will need to be submitted to St. Johns River Water Management, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Environment Protection. District 1 will continue to provide updates on the status of other projects as information becomes available.

Commissioner Rita Pritchett appreciates the communities’ patience with this process and your passion for our boat ramps. Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any additional questions.

A man involved in a fistfight with another person at a crowded park, left, and returned several minutes’ later with a gun and opened fire. The gunman was then shot by a bystander, who was lawfully licensed to carry a firearm.

The initial shooter was airlifted to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. His gun was recovered from the scene.

The bystander who shot the suspect waited for officers and has been fully cooperative with the investigation.

There were no other reported injuries.

“We are extremely grateful that nobody else was injured in this incident” said Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson. “This suspect opened fire at a crowded public park, this could have been so much worse”.
